Formally challenging a judge’s decision

On rare occasions judges get their decisions not just a bit wrong but so wrong that the outcome is unfair. In those cases, one or both sides can ask a judge higher up the ladder to consider an appeal to change the outcome. However, successful appeals are rare and tend to increase delay and expense.
